The creatinine test is used to assess the creatinine levels in the blood. It is a common way to check how well a person’s kidneys are functioning. Also known as the creatinine serum test, it helps doctors to detect or monitor kidney-related problems like chronic kidney disease and acute renal failure.
Overview of the Creatinine Test
Creatinine is a waste product left over from the normal breakdown of muscle tissue. The healthy kidneys filter creatinine and expel it through urine to create creatinine-free blood, a process known as creatinine clearance. So, kidneys play a major role in maintaining normal creatinine levels in the body. A high creatinine level can be a sign of kidney disease or a problem. As the kidneys stop working properly for any reason, the creatinine level crosses its normal range due to poor clearance of the waste compounds. A high level of this chemical compound in the body is a good indicator of the chances of failure or malfunction of the kidneys. A creatinine blood test is the most effective way to check the level of creatinine in the blood.
