A PTINR blood test is a blood coagulation test that measures the time it takes to form a blood clot. Prothrombin is one of the several proteins produced by the liver known as a clotting factor. This test is usually done to check for any blood-clotting problems, bleeding problems, or liver dysfunction.

Overview Prothrombin Time INR Test

The Prothrombin Test, also known as the INR test, measures the time for blood clot formation. A medical professional prescribes a PT or INR lab test if a person bleeds/bruises easily, develops frequent swelling in joints, develops unexplained blood clots, and has traces of blood in the urine. There are several clotting factors in the blood, if there is a problem with these factors, then it takes longer than usual to form a blood clot. A PT or INR test is conducted to diagnose inherited disorders and medical conditions such as liver disease, haemophilia, cancer, and autoimmune disease. The PTINR test’s normal range is equal to or less than 1.1.
