STD / Sexually transmitted diseases as the name indicates is an infection caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites that is transmitted through sexual contact. The common types of STD include genital Herpes, HIV, Chlamydia, HPV, Gonorrhea, Syphilis etc. Symptoms include discharge from penis in males & vagina in females, sores, warts, itching & redness in genital area, pain lower abdomen & fever. STD can spread to infants during pregnancy or childbirth if the mother is infected. Blood transfusions & sharing of needles in drug pushers can also cause STD.
